You Need a Friend

Podcast: You Need a Friend | Trent Ling

“When I think of the message ‘You Need a Friend,’ I think of my husband and I’s late dog, Rosie, and her special bond with her husky friend, Makita. Any time of the day, even as early as 5 AM, Rosie would always cheer up whenever she saw Makita. That’s it; a friend lifts up your spirit. But, we need to let them in though–and I understand it’s not everyone’s cup of tea, especially if you’re a loner at heart, an introvert like me. In the end, it is that friendship–the love for your friend–that would help you persevere when the going gets tough” (Mila).

“In thinking about friendships, I think back to when I met Jamie. I was at a place in my life where I was being told to look different, act different, and just over all be different. I then met Jamie and it was just so easy. I remember driving home after being in a lake at a friend’s house and Jamie called me asking if I wanted to go out. I told him that I wanted to go home first to change, and he told me not to worry about it. He said he was coming from the gym that he would be all smelly, too. Here was someone who didn’t care what I looked like, acted like he just accepted me for me. Being with each other was so easy and we didn’t have to pretend–we just got to be ourselves. That is what a true friendship is–accepting each other as you are and loving each other fully no matter what. Jamie is my husband. We have been married for 20 years” (Lynette).
